Description
Chimay Premiere Rouge Red Cap
Chimay Rouge Premiere, is the oldest of the Chimays. This Trappist beer possesses a beautiful coppery color that makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a slight fruity apricot smell from the fermentation. The aroma felt in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruit nuances revealed to the sense of smell. This traditional Belgian beer is best savored at cellar temperature (10 – 12°C).
Chimay is an authentic Trappist beer
That means that it is brewed within the walls of a Trappist monastery under the supervision and responsibility of the monastic community, which is involved in the entire process of making and selling the ale. The bulk of the revenue that this activity generates is used to finance social services and cover the community’s needs. “Authentic Trappist Product” logo on the Chimay beer labels certifies stringent observance of these criteria.
SCOURMONT ABBEY
A small group of monks came to settle on the wild plateau of Scourmont, near Chimay, in the summer of 1850. A farm, brewery, and dairy soon sprang up around the monastery. Scourmont Abbey has developed a range of economic activities, thereby boosting regional employment.
Chimay beers are among the rare types recognized as authentic Trappist products. Brewed for many years, these beers take their personality from their unique yeast and the purity of the Abbey well water.
