Samuel Adams Winter Lager

Now crisper and brighter, Samuel Adams Winter Lager has been reformulated! For colder nights, lean on Winter Lager, a crisp bock with citrus and spices. The new, brighter clementine orange aroma is especially refreshing during holiday meals and celebrations. Hints of spice complement the rich maltiness of light caramel and roasted malt, with a smooth and warming finish.

Satay, Baked Brie, Brussel Sprouts & Bacon

Roasted Duck or Turkey, Thai food, Beef Stew

Carrot Cake, Gingerbread, Apple Pie

You can’t have “holiday spice” without cinnamon. So we tried dozens of cinnamons and came to a blend of cinnamons grown in Southeast Asia. Unlike the more common varieties of cinnamon, the blend contains Indonesian and Vietnamese cinnamon. The Vietnamese cinnamon is prized for its intense and complex pronounced spice taste.

The spices for Samuel Adams Winter Lager are fresh ground just before brewing, adding character and depth to the generous quantities of malted wheat. We then brew these spices with a dark wheat bock, to put our own twist on the classic bock style. The result is a deep ruby lager with a warming spicy flavor profile.

Bock beers, like the dark wheat bock Winter Lager, are classically strong dark lagers originating from the town of Einbeck, Germany. Translating to “billy goat,” some claim bock’s name association comes from being brewed during the astrological sign of Capricorn. Bocks are known for their rich malt character and low bitterness. High in food energy and nutrients, these beers were traditionally brewed by monks during fasting on holidays such as Christmas and Lent. Thus, these stronger brews are closely associated with the holidays.

Samuel Adams Home For Research And Development

The Boston Brewery is where all of our beers get their start, with the exception of Boston Lager, which was born in our founder Jim Koch’s kitchen. It is the smallest of our three breweries (the others are in Cincinnati, OH and Lehigh Valley, PA – Please note these two breweries are not open for public tours/tastings.) but it is the most important. The Boston Brewery is akin to a test kitchen – it’s where we try out new ingredients, and brew specialty beers that are available only in the Boston area or in our Brewery tasting rooms. When you visit us for a tour, you may have the opportunity to try a beer that you’ll never get to try again or maybe one that you’ll be able to pick up in a six-pack a year down the road. We’re constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of brewing to make sure that from the ingredients to the glass, every pint of Samuel Adams beer is as good (if not better) than the last.
